floor mess from Making A Lather

My strip bins overfloweth. The big problem is the floor around them is collecting strips as well. I don't like the mess of sorting into colors, so, I wait until the situation is urgent. I am trying to clean the floor in my sewing room. It has to be done.

1 1/2 inch strip bin

This is the 1 1/2 inch strip drawer unleashed. Hard to believe all this was in one drawer.

The big pile of neutrals was a mess on the floor which prompted my attention. I sat on the floor making piles of color ...

scrappy pinwheels finished from Making A Lather

My Friday finish this week is scrappy pinwheels. I really enjoyed making this pattern and quilt. I started it in 2018 in an effort to use 2 1/2 inch scraps. It would be great for a jelly roll. One jelly roll would make it bigger than this one. I liked it so much, I recently cut another one in upcycled shirt fabrics.

60 x 68 = 14 yards

I quilted an overall paisley and used the backing for binding

My version of the pattern here

pinwheels progress from Making A Lather

I have been sewing rows for my scrappy pinwheels quilt. The center is done and waiting for borders. I think I will keep it simple.

I have enjoyed making this pattern, so much so, that, I cut another, larger, quilt in shirt fabric. I guess I plan to live forever.

pinwheels progress from Making A Lather

I had a chance to make more scrappy pinwheel blocks, and, check how they will work as a row. I am really liking how easy this pattern is for scraps. When I cut my 2 1/2 inch strips for any other project, I can cut either the 4 1/2 inch or 6 1/2 inch rectangle from the leftover, depending on what is left. If, I can get a 2 1/2 inch square from any leftovers, I can use that, too. The background is a 4 1/2 inch square and 2 1/2 inch squares. I ...

scrappy pinwheels start from Making A Lather

I opened another Ufo box for my 5 quilts projects, and, found a fun older project. So, I am sewing scrappy pinwheels at Friday sews. It is easy and portable. It is fun to revisit some oldie but goodie fabrics as I piece the blocks. I found 3 different block pieces cut, and, made, when I opened the box. I needed to sew into block quarters below. This could easily be a jelly roll pattern.

Evidently, I can't count. I needed to cut and add a few more. My goal was 80 blocks.

So, that, I could make 20 ...

rsc strip weave from Making A Lather

I made 2 pink strip weave blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. Most of my scraps are smaller than I would need to get matching strips.

I cut some of the pieces for garlic knots. It's a jedi mind trick to make that older UFO ready for finishing.

strip weave from Making A Lather

I have more blue 2 1/2 inch strips than just about any other kind of scraps. It is always a good idea to try and whittle these down a bit. I made these blue weave type block for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. This little bit won't help much. I found a whole plastic box of blue scraps that I am sorting this month. There are larger than fat quarters that will go to my stash. There are, oddly enough, 2 1/2 inch strips. Yea more! and lots of surprises.

I thought I would sneak ...

fish school from Making A Lather

Bonnie Hunter has a new leader/ender project for the next year called fish school. I have officially declared easy breezy blocks done, so, I can take the challenge and start working on this project. Bonnie is using 2 inch strips and HSTS, but, I have too many 2 1/2 inch strips, so, I am going to use those. I have a hsts die that I can use to cut 6 at a time. I started cutting strips to 9 1/2 inches to fit that die.  I went through a drawer and cut 115. By calculations I will ...

windmill finish from Making A Lather

The last of my August one monthly goals for this year, is squeaking in just under the deadline. It was a mad dash to finish this quilt by the end of the month. I couldn't decide if I wanted to add borders or not. I added the borders. Then, I couldn't decide how I was going to do the binding. I haven't been as happy with machine stitching the bindings of late, so I was contemplating hand stitching again.

My Friday quilt group was meeting again, and I took it with me. I had the binding cut ...

wedding ring block from Making A Lather

Awhile ago, I mentioned that I had a bag of squares that were cut a little off. And, that, I would have to trim, and, cut for something new here. I made sets of the pieces I would need, and, then put them in a drawer. I forgot about them, until, I was checking for something and found them again. I was able to piece one lonely block. I am going to like them.

I couldn't fit another piece of 2 1/2 inch fabric into my temporary drawer. It wouldn't close. It was time to sort the ...
